BECOME A RMA

REGISTERED MEDICATION AIDE

RMA’s duties entail providing routine daily medications, either prescription or non-prescription, to patients whose condition and drug regimen are stable. When not administering medications, RMAs carry out the same tasks as Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs). This includes taking and recording residents’ vital signs, documenting a resident’s health status, cleaning rooms and bed linens, basic first aid, helping with meals, and much more.

PROGRAM DURATION

  • 5 Week Day Classes meet Monday & Wednesday for 5 weeks – 9:00AM to 2:00PM
  • 7 Week Day Classes meet Monday & Wednesday for 7 weeks – 5:30PM to 10:00PM
  • 3 Week Day Classes meet Monday-Friday for 3 Weeks – 3:00 to 7:15PM or 9:00AM to 1:00PM
  • Program includes a total of 48 hours on location and 20 hours of clinical practicum

EXPERIENCE

  • A high school diploma or GED is required to enroll. No other experience required
  • Must be able to read and write in english
  • Students seeking enrollment in the program must meet one of the following prerequisites:
    • Successful completion of the 40-hour Direct Care Staff Training required by DSS for ALF employment: or
    • Successful completion of the 40-hour PCA training: or
    • Successful completion of a Board of Nursing approved nurse aide training program: or
    • Successful completion of one clinical course of a nursing program

  • Application Processing Fee – $50.00  |  non-refundable (includes cost of background check)
  • Enrollment – $750.00  |  due the first day of class (processing fees may apply for Credit Card or PayPal)

ADDITIONAL FEES

  • TB test
  • Scrubs
  • Lab coat – must be white without any logo
  • Non-skid work shoes

Completing this course will prepare you to take the Medication Aide Exam which is administered externally by the Virginia Board of Nursing. Upon completing this examination, usually within 3 months, you will be a fully licensed Registered Medication Aide!!
